nuun is pleased to present Hang To Dry, the first solo exhibition of Jeanie Yoo (b. 2002), featuring a new body of layered silk paintings composed of both small and large-scale works. Originally developed from small experimental silk samples tucked into the corner of Yoo’s studio, the exhibition follows an intuitive process of material exploration and sustained meditation. While studying textiles in Jaipur, India through the Rhode Island School of Design, Yoo began painting directly onto silk organza with powdered dyes, discovering that the material absorbed color similarly to watercolor while remaining highly sensitive to timing and light. Working with transparent layers of dyed silk stretched across wooden frames, Yoo creates compositions that shift depending on their environment and viewing conditions. Hand embroidery punctures moments of connection into the delicate surface, resolving the tension created through overlapping layers of fabric and color. Each work reflects a practice rooted in intuition and repetition, allowing Yoo to discover new qualities of painting and living through the process of making itself.
